Updated: Jan 18, 2019

GERARD VILLET VIN MOUSSEAUX DE QUALITE BRUT, SAVOIE-JURA, FRANCE 100% Chardonnay

Organic Domaine Villet is a family estate located in village of Arbois in the Jura region of Eastern France. It was founded in 1900 and converted to organic viticulture in 1988. At the time, they were one of the first estates in the region to do this. Their exquisite bubbly is composed of 100% Chardonnay made in the Champagne method with  no dosage.  Organically farmed and vinified with indigenous yeast and negligible sulfur (less the 20 ppm) this is clean, crisp and dry with Champagne-like lemony and yeasty notes. It comes as no surprise this sparkler was highlighted in a recent Wall Street Journal: "Great French Bubblies Beyond Champagne" piece. It makes an elegant aperitif and complements many foods, from fish and shellfish to roast chicken and fondue.  Club Price: 26.99

2017 OTT "AM BERG" GRUNER VELTLINER WAGRAM, AUSTRIA 100% Gruner Veltliner Certified Biodynamic

Bernhard Ott (a.k.a "Mr. Veltliner") is well-known in Austria. The Ott family has been growing and producing wine in the region of Wagram in Lower Austria since 1889; Bernhard Ott is of the fourth generation and has managed the winery since 1993. Bernhard began the conversion process to organic and Biodyanmic viticulture in 2004. The vineyards are farmed by hand and all the fruit is hand-harvested, fermented with native yeast and bottled with negligible sulfur. This is 100% Gruner Veltliner composed of grapes from various terraced vineyard sites above Feuresbrunn (known as the "Berg") where the famous loess-based soils leave their distinctive mineral imprint. This delicious Gruner is crisp and focused, with classic Gruner aromas and flavors of green apple peach and a lift of white pepper, silky texture and mineral-driven finish. This versatile white is a great wine to enjoy with green veggies and salads as well as fish, white meats, and sausage. Club price: $19.79

2014 KABAJ "SIVI PINOT" PINOT GRIS GORISKA BRDA, SLOVENIA (ORANGE WINE)

100% Pinot Gris

Organic The Kabaj family has been growing grapes and making wine in Goriška Brda, Slovenia, for three generations. From soils composed of sandstone and slate, this 100% Pinot Gris was made in the skin-contact a.k.a. "orange" style. All the Kabaj wines are made as nature intended, in the style and technique of ancient Slovenian winemaking traditions. The fruit is from organic vineyards and wine made with no use of chemical compounds, native yeasts only, no added sulfur and no filtration. To make this wine, the fruit macerated with 24 hours on the skins, followed by aging 12 months in French oak and then an additional four months in bottle. The result is an accessible style--not too funky-- with apple, peach and floral aromas and flavors accented by savory notes. The palate is layered and mouthfilling but still lively with earthy notes and minerality in the finish. It's a perfect match for rich pasta dishes, as well as for vegetable dishes. Club price: $20.69

2017 LE SOEUR CADETTE CHENAS, BEAUJOLAIS, BURGUNDY, FRANCE 100% Gamay

Organic

The small family domaine of Le Soeur Cadette is located in the village of Saint-Père, southeast of Vézelay in Beaujolais, an historic French wine region that boasts of winemaking traditions dating back to Roman times. Chenas is the smallest of the Beaujolais crus, named for the forest of French oak trees ("chêne" in French) that used to grow on the hillsides. With the guidance of master Bernard Raveneau, Jean and Catherine Montanet follow organic farming principals and natural vinification techniques to craft exciting, terroir-driven wines. This is 100% Gamay, from 45 year-old vines planted to granite soils. It fermented in stainless steel tank, followed by aging for nine to ten months in barrel. The result is fragrant, mineral-driven red with wild strawnerry, rose petal and wet earth aromas and flavors, lively acidity and crushed rock minerality. The structure of this wine makes it a great complement to chicken dishes, roast pork, or steak with a dollop of herb butter. Club price: $26.99

2016 RIMBERT "LE MAS AU SCHISTE" SAINT-CHINIAN ROUGE, LANGUEDOC-ROUSSILLON, FRANCE

40% Carignan, 30% Syrah, 30% Grenache

Jean-Marie Rimbert farms 20 hectares of vines planted to the rocky soils of the Saint Chinian appellation in the Languedoc Roussillon.
