2016 CUEVA BY MARIANA "ORANGE" VINO BLANCO DE ESPANA (ORANGE WINE), VALENCIA, SPAIN

60% Tardana and 40% Macabeu

Certified Organic

Bodega Cueva is located in the village of La Portera in the region of Valencia, Spain. The domaine dates back to the 18th century and farming practices have always been natural; it is certified organic today. Winemaker/Owner Mariano Taberner uses two grapes to make this wine: Tardana and Macabeu. Tardana is a rare varietal indigenous to this region while Macabeu is more common (it is also known as Viura in Rioja). This is an "orange" style wine -- which means it is a white wine made with skin contact contact, resulting in the deepening of color and addition of texture, structure and flavor. The extended skin maceration gives this wine an intense fruit aroma with savory complexity on the palate. It is a fascinating wine with many food pairing possibilities. A true natural wine, it fermented with native yeast, and was bottled unfined, unfiltered, and without added free sulfur--the only intervention here is that Mariano plays music to his wine in the cellar!
